An award ceremony for operation Anadyr participants was held in Arkhangelsk on April 10. “Anadyr” was a code name for deployment of the Soviet divisions and warfare to Cuba in 1962.
The operation was a response to a military invasion attempt made by the USA. 16 people from the Arkhangelsk region took part in the operation.
53 years later normalization of relations with the Republic of Cuba showed that the Cuba government never forgot the deeds of the Soviet army. 16 veterans in the Arkhangelsk region are awarded the Government of Cuba medals. Unfortunately, some of the veterans are no longer alive, and the medals were given to their relatives.
